When I went away to college my mom sent me her
“Hug”, along with a note. "I'm a HUG", it read.
"Anytime you need me, just wrap me around you
and know that you're loved." Her message came
through that Hug loud and clear. Every time my eye
caught it, I found myself smiling.
Now, years later, Mom is no longer with us, but that
Hug still is. I still smile every time I see it, and
especially when my young daughter wraps it around
herself and exclaims “Look Mommy! Grandma’s
hugging me!” Best of all, I can still have a hug from
Mom whenever I need one.
Flowers die, candy gets eaten, but twenty plus years
later, I still have something that does exactly what
my Mom intended it to do - it reminds me of her
love, her sense of whimsy, and it does it in a very real
and personal way.
